Jonna Tuovinen to complete the coaching staff of the Saints
The coaching team of the Tampere Saints is further strengthened with the addition of Jonna Tuovinen.
Tuovinen has played for the Saints since 2018 and has also represented Finland in several major competitions. Last season, Tuovinen also had the opportunity to play in the United States, where her team, the Minnesota Vixen, reached the Women’s Football Alliance final, where they were unfortunately defeated by the Boston Renegades.
Last summer, Tuovinen was also a captain of the Finnish team at the World Championships held in Vantaa. Unfortunately, Tuovinen’s participation in the championships was cut short due to an injury, but she is now looking forward to this new coaching role with a familiar team:
“I’m happy to have found a suitable role in the team now that my playing is on hold due to rehab for a groin injury. I will particularly help with tackling and backfield issues on the defensive side, and I will also work on preventing sports injuries in the women’s team. I hope I can pass on something useful from my own experience as a coach that will benefit my teammates as well.”
Head coach Mikko Aspinen is also excited about Tuovinen joining the coaching staff of the Saints:
“I am extremely pleased to have a player and person of Jonna’s caliber join the coaching staff. Jonna has a lot to offer in terms of experience and expertise, and she has the professional skills and vision to take our operations forward.
Aspinen says that Tuovinen has already brought new elements to tackling and contact training, and he is looking forward to what else can be developed during the coming season.
With Tuovinen, the Saints’ nine-coach team now includes four women, which is not yet common in Finnish leagues. Tuovinen also mentions that she is very excited about the increase in the number of women on the coaching side.”
