Tampere Saintsin pelinrakentaja vaihtuu – CJ Howard johtoon tulevalle kaudelle
Tampere Saints on tehnyt muutoksen pelinrakentajaosastollaan juuri ennen kauden alkua. Aiemmin talvella julkistettu sopimus Brandon Kylesin kanssa on purettu yhteisymmärryksessä, ja seura reagoi tilanteeseen nopeasti hankkimalla uuden johtajan hyökkäykselleen.
Uudeksi pelinrakentajaksi Tampereelle saapuu yhdysvaltalainen Christopher “CJ” Howard. Atlantasta kotoisin oleva 189-senttinen ja 103-kiloinen pelinrakentaja tuo mukanaan sekä fyysistä läsnäoloa että monipuolista kokemusta eri pelitasoilta. Howard on pelannut Yhdysvalloissa arvostetussa Alabama Crimson Tide joukkueessa, ja hänen uransa on sittemmin vienyt useille kansainvälisille kentille Euroopassa ja Etelä-Amerikassa. Kokemusta on kertynyt muun muassa Itävallasta, Saksasta, Brasiliasta ja Serbiasta – Suomen kentät ovat hänelle kuitenkin uusi haaste.
Howard suhtautuu tulevaan innostuneesti ja näkee siirron mahdollisuutena sekä kehittyä pelaajana että kokea uusi ympäristö:
”My thoughts on coming to Finland are that I have heard great things about the country and city and can’t wait to experience it for myself and make it a home! My expectations for the Maple League are a very competitive experience, where we can test ourselves at a high level in Europe!”
Saintsin hyökkäyksen koordinaattori Dajon Newell näkee uudessa pelinrakentajassa paljon potentiaalia ja johtajuutta:
”We’re thrilled to welcome CJ to Tampere for the 2026 season. He’s been coached by the best at the collegiate level and competed internationally for multiple championships, bringing experience, poise, and strong leadership to our offense. CJ’s tough to tackle, has a big arm, and makes big plays. He’s had his eye on the Maple League for some years now – but it’s time for the league to watch what he can do.”
Howard itse kuvailee pelityyliään joukkuekeskeiseksi, mutta näyttäväksi:
”As far as a player, I consider myself a playmaker. I want to get the ball to all of our guys and be depended on every moment to help our offense succeed. I want the fans to have a great time at games and put on a good show for them! They can expect to see a leader, someone who is going to put it all out there every snap, and a great winning product from the team!”
Vaahteraliiga käynnistyy Saintsin osalta lauantaina 6.6., kun joukkue matkustaa Porvooseen kohtaamaan hallitsevan mestarin Porvoon Butchersin. Tuolloin nähdään Howard ja muu Saints-kokoonpano ensimmäistä kertaa tositoimissa!
